Gymnasts from Cuenca – Ecuador

Cuenca is city of approximately 500,000 people and it is located at southern side of Ecuador.  In general, gymnasts in Cuenca practice gymnastics at their high school facilities (3 high schools had gyms in Cuenca: Tecnico Salesiano, Benigno Malo and Cesar Davila) and also at government gymnastics facility that belongs to the Azuay Gymnastics Federation, “Federation de Gimnasia del Azuay”, located in Totoracocha, which is a neighbor of Cuenca.  This gymnastics facility  is known by the gymnasts as “El gimnasio de Totoracocha”.  Many gymnasts who had represented Ecuador at international gymnastics competitions have trained at the Totoracocha gym.

 

Gymnastics in Cuenca needs more support from the Ecuadorian federation of sports.  In general, the gym needs to be updated.  The implements are very old and some of them cannot be used anymore.  It’s the hope of all of us who train or had trained gymnastics here that this gym is updated and the sports receives more attention.  We wish that gymnastics will not disappear in this city due to the lack of support and commitment from those who make the Ecuadorian Federation of Sports.
